Living in an intensely divisor and controversial moment as this current socio -political moment makes certain perspectives on the world more necessary than ever. As a university professor for 30 years, I have renewed the appreciation of my discipline of sociology and the questions and answers he offers to this heaviness of history. This message is more than a love letter on sociology. He focuses on how and the reason why sociology is a promising choice as a major or minor at the college at the moment and how to register for one or more sociology courses in college has the potential to expand his sense of the world.

As a discipline, sociology has emerged in response to a rapid transformation in society, and it continues to offer explanations for the causes, models and consequences of social, political, economic and technological change.

Today students can benefit from sociology as follows and for the following reasons:

  1. Sociology is a way to see the world beyond ourselves.
  2. Sociology crosses part of the narcissism And individualism in our culture and helps us to see what life is like in someone else’s shoes.
  3. Sociology helps to build the muscle of empathy, which is essential to live in a community.
  4. Sociology helps us to consider obligations and for social solidarity.
  5. Sociology invites us to examine the interior functioning of society, our social institutions and even our relations.
  6. Sociology consists in eliminating the hypotheses taken to acquire and look under the surface. It’s about seeing the world in a whole new way. By doing this, we also have the opportunity to see each other in a whole new way.
  7. Sociology teaches critical and creative thought And, at the base, helps us to deepen our curiosity as to what it means to be human social beings.
  8. Sociology provides the framework of understanding that apparently private personal problems are in fact linked to much more important public problems and social structures.
  9. Sociology offers criticisms of bureaucracy and alienation, flattening and dull which are consequences of bureaucratic conditions. Sociology therefore encourages us to observe and resist these dynamics in a way that brings us back to our deepest feeling of humanity.
  10. Sociology helps us to see how our self -feeling emerges from social interactions, social institutions that we live in and fast -firing technology changes.
  11. Even if you choose not to be a major or minor in sociology, acquiring sociological knowledge can help and support students in other majors.
