Funny things happen when you run before Sunup

I have been running regularly for 38 years. Meanwhile, I lived in six different districts ranging from rural to the suburbs. I had a number of meetings with animals, wild and domestic. Here are some of my stories.

Pebbles

I live half a thousand of a Walmart in a neighborhood surrounded by neighborhoods. It seems to be the most unlikely place to have to face the rats, rabbits, fox, deer, opossums or skuffs, but I have met them all in my little backyard and in our streets.

The older I get, the earlier I run. Now, at the end of the 1960s, I rarely run after sunrise. My most common disturbing meeting with the fauna is by far with the skuffs. Our particular area is so well filled with these striped mammals, they should be the mascot of our school.

I believe that the only reason why I have not yet been sprayed is because our city’s skuffs know humans very well. I never had only one lifts the tail on me but, fortunately, it was too far for me.

The most common moment to see a mixture is garbage day, which for us is Thursday. I always say a little prayer before taking off: “Dear Lord, protect me from all dangers, both foreigners (things outside my body) and domestic …
