Dwyane Wade, the NBA retirement star, recently talked about her stadium cancer diagnosis 1, revealing that he felt “healthy” when he went for an exam, to realize that the subtle signs that his body showed were early alert signals for kidney cancer.
In a recent interview, the 41-year-old basketball retreat revealed that he had examined due to the history of his father’s prostate cancer. Although Wade was not suspected of serious, he shared with his doctor the subtle signs he had known, including stomach pain and changes in his urination.
“I did not think anything about it. And so once I entered, I said to myself, ok, I just want to know everything,” said Wade in an exclusive interview With today.
“I just talked about having a slow flow. Sometimes, when I was going to the toilet, my urine was not slowly coming out. I had cramps, pain, sometimes a little in my stomach that I did not understand,” he added.
Doctors made an MRI to investigate the areas where Wade had felt pain. To his surprise, the scan revealed an unexpected lesion in his kidneys. “I did not go for my kidneys. I went to check my stomach and my prostate,” he said.
Persistent dull pain or pain in the side, the abdomen or the lower back is a sign kidney cancer. Other symptoms include blood in the urine (hematuria), which can make it appear red or rusty, although it can also result from conditions such as kidney stones. Additional signs include a bump in the side or lower back, unexplained fever, fatigue, swelling of the legs and involuntary weight loss.
Wade underwent surgery and the doctors then confirmed that the lesion was cancerous. “Thank goodness, we caught it early. It was not something that could grow. It was about 3 centimeters on my kidney,” he said.
After having recovered quickly, Wade now shares its history to encourage others, especially men, to adopt a proactive approach to their health. He urges people to ask for a doctor if they notice changes in their bodies.
“When people hear cancer, they obviously think it’s over,” said Wade, but he explained that his experience had been a transformer. “Many of us will not check us if we don’t feel anything,” he noted, urging men to go beyond this state of mind. “I want us to survive that. I want us to grow from that.”
