Understand Hypermesis Cannabis

As hemp used all over the United States, there have been increasing reports on a phenomenon called hyperemesis Cannabis (CHS).

While CHS is actually a relatively rare condition, as it occurs in about 3 % of chronic hemp users, its symptoms can be severe, causing nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, which sometimes leads to more severe consequences (1) ..

I was practicing the registered medical cannabis for more than 10 years, and I got nearly 1500 patients. However, at all this time, I only had two patients affirming.

However, several years ago, while still working full time as an emergency doctor, a long time before recognizing Chs as a clinical entity (he was first described in literature in 2004), I faced my colleagues and repeated confrontations with a patient who was clearly suffering from. We were working in a crowded hospital on the outskirts of New Jersey when this patient came. He was a young man in his mid -twenties, dressed in very fun and very enjoyable clothes. He was disturbing and unusual, every time he suddenly appeared in ER, he was planting himself in the middle of the main chaotic treatment area, in front of the nursing station, and begins to decline. But frankly, I do not think that many in the world of medicine ER were seized in this phenomenon in those days, and what he understood at the time was that hemp was useful to prevent nausea and vomiting, and not the exact opposite.

Now, my fellow hemp (and some others) realizes when it is displayed, and we have learned that the only way to avoid them as soon as it develops is to completely refrain from sex from that point.

As a 40 -year -old doctor, I am concerned about realizing that despite its many potential benefits, especially in cases where nothing else has succeeded, there is no way to return to the use of medical hemp when CHS develops.

At some point after it started as a medical cannabis practitioner, a patient was alerted that this condition suddenly developed. She was an elderly woman, several years after the use of cannabis, ended in the intensive care unit with kidney failure. While she recovered the kidney function again, it was really unfortunate because even this point, hashish was the only thing that gave her her relief from exhausted arthritis and malfunctions, intestinal stomach pain, and insomnia. After entering the hospital, she had to stop the use of cannabis and return to non -steroidal anti -inflammatory and Afunia that she was using several years before the treatment of successful medical cannabis.

Why may the material that works well to relieve nausea and vomiting in many clinical situations can have an opposite effect in a small group of patients?

For one reason, it is known that hemp has a two -phase effect on nausea and vomiting, with low doses that prevent nausea and high doses that cause this.

While we are moving towards criminalization of federal cannabis, CHS will continue to rise, in parallel with the increase in hemp around the world and the strength of the products. There is a need for education One of the common people and my medical colleagues about the recognition of the symptoms and causes of CHS, especially in those who suffer from genetic readiness. We also hope that we can combat this trend between farmers, producers and consumers to find higher and higher doses than THC.

Unfortunately, we haven’t seen this first patient yet CHS and treatment (limited) treatment options for us. I can only hope that someone will see the relationship between the habit of heavy cannabis and its exhausted symptoms and helped to direct it away from its continuous use.
