Forget Agi: It’s time to look at MCI

A student’s picture I love writing once. Now each article begins with a claim that is written in a large language model, and every polished paragraph is almost complete. The grades are still high, but there is something different – the words no longer feel like them, and trust In their own thinking, it melts quietly. I think this may be one of the most important issues today.

We are chasing synthetic General intelligence (AGI), we may go beyond something much more important, and this is our ability to think. For years, AGI has been treated as the finish line of Amnesty International. This is the day when artificial intelligence stops predicting the following word and begins to think like us and even behind us. My feeling is that the most urgent question is not when the machines cross the AGI threshold, but if we have already crossed.

I call this minimum cognitive integrity, or Mci In short. It is not a scale or data point. It is a philosophical line, the point below in which we surrender with enough of our intellectual introduction that our agency itself is at risk. MCI is what keeps us in our driver seat perception. Above it, we are still directing our thinking, and we choose what we think about and ask about it. Below, we are still “thinking”, but the operation has been used quietly. The device not only answers our questions, but is the formation of the questions we ask.

I have previously written about what I call Borrowed. that it Using gradual external sources of our cognitive capabilities. It begins small by leaving simple things such as automatic completion of the sentence or allowing the search results to determine the sources you will read or cite. Soon, Chatbot allows you to write your first draft and then the second. Every step you feel effectively, even smart. But combined, they create cognitive erosion Away from friction This makes thinking alive and man.

This is usually called Cognitive emptying. It is when we rely on tools to think for us. There is even a more academic name for this in the context of LLMS called “Laziness beyond cognitiveOf course, this is not always a problem (think about all the forgotten phone numbers that have been saved now on your phone).

The transit below MCI is not a single event. I think it looks like muscle or sarcopinia atrophy. It is the loss of slow strength until one day you cannot raise the weight you are accustomed to or even need it. We still have ideas, but they are formed by the device or even Anti -intelligence From artificial intelligence.

Often, our intellectual life works on the bars that have been quietly placed for us with technology and the “great technology” itself. The more we remain “on the right track”, the more difficult to return to independent thought. Remember, Human Not only there is a mind. He uses it. And when external sources are used for this act, the cognitive journey of another person (or something else) becomes.

Here is the main point. If AGI is the finish line for machines, MCI may be a conceptual survival line for human perception. The paradox is that in the race to create more smart and smarter machines, we may excel The same thing that made this race meaning-its own ability of the original and subjective thought.

This is not an invitation to abandon technology or a Distopy defeat. It is an invitation to consciously draw the line and refuse to allow thinking that it becomes completely negative. There are practical ways to protect the “minimum cognitive integrity” and to remain entirely participated in the act of thought that may help protect and defend human perception.

  • Choose friction. The next time you tend to demand a stop. Set temporarily mentally for a few minutes and make the problem yourself. This small conflict enhances problem -solving skills, is very similar to that exercise builds muscle.
  • Ask better questions. Amnesty International was used as a partner in the debate, not Oracle. Challenge artificial intelligence before accepting its product and making it work with you, not just for you.
  • Take the cognitive Saturday. Often, perhaps once a week or so, completely separated from the algorithm for a few hours. Read a financial book, write by hand, or have a winding conversation with family or friends.

It may still Agi years. But the issue of MCI is here now, and it is pushing against us. The future may not be from making machines more humane. It may be about human beings adhering to the ability that made us a human being in the first place. So, before we ask whether artificial intelligence can think as we do, perhaps we should ask whether we are still thinking like us?
