Dying to sleep. I know how Michael Jackson felt… | Written by Margie Willis | October 2025
Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, died of an overdose of propofol, a drug used to anesthetize a patient for surgery. A strict sleep-seeking method since he’s been dying for deep sleep his entire hyperactive life.
Jackson longed for the sleep of death. I know how that feels.
For the past fifteen hours, my torso has been in severe kidney pain as I allowed myself to become extremely dehydrated again. This was the worst attack I have ever had, due to my tendency to forget to drink enough water at the beginning of every winter.
You would think that my first attack of the season would teach me a lesson, but the scary thing is how I, being an absent-minded old man, can get through a whole day or two Without realizing it I don’t drink enough water.
I know why society often wants that house Confused old people like me, wander through my days with only a loose grip on survival. I hesitate to acknowledge how terrifying it could be inside this disturbed brain because I don’t want to rush anyone into prison.
My near-fatal misstep this time was doing massive workouts for three days in a row, then sleeping like a baby most of the next day, and neglecting to rehydrate.
