Can the diet really relieve lipid edema? A year’s journey to lose pain and lose weight
- It is believed that adenoidal edema is common, but unknown mainly affects women.
- The disease is painful. Lipxicing edema is characterized by non -proportional fatty tissues on the thighs and calves, and sometimes on the arms, while the hands and feet are not affected.
- The new doctoral thesis in NTNU discussed the relationship between two different systems, an effect on pain, quality of life, body weight, body formation, appetite and infections.
Everything began when it was in the lower high school.
Her thighs, calves and upper arms suddenly started growing, and she could not understand why she was very painful. He was not even more than 40 years old, as Sneva Copeng was diagnosed with lipid sesimity.
However, before making the correct diagnosis, I tried all types of meals – with a little success.
A recent NTNU study showed that its experience is very typical. It is unlikely that fats in the body associated with adipose edema are not wasting by following a diet.
Limited knowledge
“Although he is a disease that affects many women, little is known about it, which is thinking,” said Julian Lundans, a former PhD candidate at NTNU.
Ezematic edema is an incomprehensible disease that mainly affects women.
This disease is characterized by non -proportional and exaggerated fatty tissues on the thighs and calves, and sometimes on the arms, while the hands and feet remain not affected.
Lundnes recently presented a doctoral thesis in NTNU about the relationship between two different systems and its effects on pain, quality of life, body weight, composition, appetite and infections.
Some people become obese
The lipid edema is painful. It may be painful to move, and it is easy for people who suffer from the disease to be busy in a vicious circle of lack of activity and reduce the quality of life. Ezematic edema is often wrong for obesity, but it is two distinct condition.
If a person with lipid edema loses his weight, it is common to see natural fats disappear, as in the stomach, while calves and thighs remain the same size. When a person suffers from obesity, fats can be stored throughout the body, whether under the skin or around the internal organs.
In lipid edema, the accumulation of fatty tissue mainly occurs under the skin on the hips, thighs, calves and arms.
The pain associated with the disease can have a major impact on the quality of life, which makes the movement difficult.
“We don’t know why the disease is very painful. We believe it involves an inflammatory condition in the fat, and this is what causes pain,” Lundans said.
Ezematism from the genetic
There are currently no Norwegian national guidelines for the treatment or follow -up of women with adipose edema.
“We also do not know much about the reason why some women are developing lipid edema, except that it appears to be hereditary. Many people are often affected in the same family. This disease is often manifested during hormonal changes such as puberty, pregnancy and menopause,” Lundans said.
The goal of the study of Lundnes was to determine whether to follow a low -carb diet can serve as an alternative to treatment for patients with disease.
She had a sample of 70 women with lipid edema between the ages of 19 and 73, which was divided into two groups.
One group followed a low -carb diet, while the other followed a low -fat diet. Both groups dealt with the same number of calories each day, but the amount of carbohydrates and fats is varied.
Participants received a weekly follow -up for eight weeks and were tested at the beginning and end of the study. Pain and quality of life were measured by a questionnaire.
The results showed clear differences between the two groups.
SInflammation degrees
Lundnes said: “Women in the Low Carbon Group were less than pain. Participants in the other group did not test any change in pain, but both groups reported the quality of a better life,” Lundnes said.
Tests were also performed to see if the decrease in pain due to a low -carb diet leads to a decrease in inflammation of the body. This was not the case.
“There was no difference in the changes in inflammation between the two groups. We also measured inflammation through blood tests, so the same fatty tissue inflammation still needs to be investigated in order to extract any conclusions,” Lundans said.
The largest weight loss on the low -carb diet
Women who followed the low -carb diet have lost more weight than those who followed the low -fat diet.
“At the end of the study, we found that women who consumed a fewer carbohydrates were less hungry than the other group. Feeling that you are less hungry is a known benefit for low -carb meals by simply achieving ketosis. This may have helped these women lose weight more than the other group,” Lundans said.
There is no treatment that can eliminate the causes or treatment of adipose edema. There is only a treatment that can relieve some symptoms.
Liposuction is one option, but it is currently being presented only as part of a research study at the HAARALDSPLASS Hospital in Bergen. The only other alternative is to pay the price of special surgery, which can cost hundreds of thousands of Norwegian Crohn.
“The long -term effects of fat mark are not completely investigated. There is a lack of research in this field as well,” Lundans said.
Pressure reduces pain
Most people are currently receiving help in the form of physical therapy and pressure clothes that press and support the fatty tissue.
“The pressure clothes give many people comfort,” says Lundans.
For Kwapeng, pressure clothing was a great help management.
“I have also lost many hundred on my legs due to pressure clothes. My expenses are covered for pressure, but in other parts of the country, it’s not quite randoma what a kind of help helps it,” says Kwapeng.
At home, it has a machine used by patients with other cases as well. The device is called pulsating, which is a vacuum treatment for lymphatic vessels designed to activate the lymphatic system. Lymph drainage begins with several cleansing processes in the body and can help improve blood circulation.
The machine resembles a giant pair of pants used while lying down.
“It works well for me. It also takes pain. I also get more energy. If I have low energy and lie in it, this is like my body,” says Kwapeng.
Over time, I learned to live with the disease.
“It is a frustrating thing to have a very incomprehensible situation. The doctor told me that at least I will not die of lipid edema – but I die a little every time I can’t sit on the floor with my daughter. I die a little every time I can’t go on a picnic I want to eat because of the pain. I die a little every time people think I am just fat and explanation.”
